Not just the author,

Do you ever get discouraged? Looking at all of life’s obstacles can be daunting. It can be scary, when we see the past and look at the opportunities for failure we have ahead. I know I have been discouraged by my failures, and it would seem that I can never get things right.

The Lord reminded me of something when I was running last night. If any of you have run in any type of race, you probably have gotten exhausted at some point. When we get exhausted, it does not help us to look at the incline, uneven ground, or distance we must travel before we get to the finish line. If we want to succeed we do not focus on opportunities for failure, but on the certainty of success. You see, in the race of life, we are not called to look at our sin, or our failures. We are called to look to Jesus. He is our goal above all else.

The author of Hebrews illustrated this when he wrote, "Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;" We are not called to look at our failures. Looking around at all the problems in our lives will not profit us. Christ is the one who began the change in us, and He is the one who will finish it. He isn’t just the author, but also the finisher of our faith. We must look to the solution of all our failures: Christ. He will strengthen and help us, so we can run the race of life. Let us not be weary or faint in our minds, as Hebrews puts it, but let us consider Christ. His strength will give us the power we need to carry on.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: – Philippians 1:6
