One ingredient

I have often tried to come up with a specific equation by which I could be used by God. I figured, if I pray for an hour and read the Bible for 15 minutes then I’ll be fit to be used. Then, God will use me tremendously. Or I would reason with myself that I had to have kept myself from a certain sin for so many days. Like I had to prove to God that I was serious. I would try to figure out what would work the best, as if the Christian life was like some kind of formula. Time and time again, I would spend hours trying to understand why some days God used me and others it would seem like everything I did for Him was a fail. The Lord has shown me recently, what He needs before He will work.

God doesn’t need fancy prayers or a track record of self-righteousness. He needs faith. Hebrews 11 is a chapter that is known by many as "the hall of faith." In this chapter we find several examples of people who were used of God. They all had one thing in common: faith. God doesn’t need perfect people, He needs people who believe what He says. Hebrews 11:6 says, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." If we look at this passage we will see that we must believe that God will reward us when we seek Him.

So in conclusion, there is something we need to have before God will work tremendously in our lives. That something is faith. So I would like to challenge you, if you want to be used of God, seek Him. Ask Him what He would have you do for Him. When you receive your answer, do it. Don’t be unsure as to whether or not God will or can use you. Stand in faith. Know that your obedience to His commands will be rewarded. Even if you don’t see results, know that God is working and He will reward your faithfulness. (no pun intended)

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17
