Rising yet again

If there is one thing I keep learning in my Christian life it is that I should never overestimate myself. I has been said that humility is essential to the Christian life. That is most definitely true.

I have to confess that I have not completely learned the lessons I shared with you in my last post. Shortly after I was trying to encourage others to abide in Christ, I had ceased to abide in Him myself. It was sadly ironic an I could not help despising my own hypocrisy. But the Lord was gracious and He used the situation for good as He always does. He reminded me of two ideas I would like to share with you.

The first comes from 1 Corinthians 10:12. This verse says, "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." This verse simply warns us to watch out. If we think that we have grown so much in our Christian walk that we are above falling to any sin, we are in pride. That pride will bring us down. As Proverbs 16:18 says, "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."

The second idea I would like to share with you today is what to do when you fall. If you happen to fall, look to Christ. He has the power to sustain us despite our failures. We are not called to look at our sin, but at Him. We should not stay down, but get right back up. Proverbs 24:16a says, "For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again:" Did you notice that the scripture said that a just man falls. It is part of being human. We will fall, but we glorify God when we get up faster and faster each time.

So in conclusion, are standing strong in the Christian life? Remain humble and remember that God is the one who gives you the strength to stand. Have you fallen lately? Humble yourself, ask God to change you and mold you, and remember that God gives you the strength to stand. – Praise God He does!

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand." – Psalm 37:23-24
