The victory: Christ’s, and yours

What a glorious day when Christ arose! Today we celebrate the resurrection of our glorious Lord. As we think of His great sacrifice, and the power that he had over death, let us remember the power that He has given to us: the power over sin.

Romans 6:4 tells us that just like Christ rose from the dead in new life, we should live in new life also. When Christ arose, He provided a new life for us. We don’t have to serve sin. Romans 6:11 tells us, "Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." This verse simply says that we are dead to sin. So why would we, being dead to sin, continue in it? If we are alive to God, should we not live in that fellowship that we can have with God?

I would like to challenge you. Realize that you don’t have to live in sin and make a choice to live in righteousness. Christ has given us power over sin. Let us consider ourselves separated from sin. As humans we will sin, but we do not have to continually live in a sinful lifestyle. When Christ died on the cross, our sin died with it. His death and resurrection gave us victory over sin. Let us remember Christ’s victory, and let it inspire us to receive the victory He gave us.

"God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" – Romans 6:2
