Ever face a great spiritual defeat? Ever find yourself in a position where there seems like you don’t have the strength to stand against sin? The Lord offers us a simple solution to our weakness in Joshua 7.
In Joshua 7, Joshua and the Israelites are defeated by the city of Ai. Because of this, Joshua is mourning and he falls before God. In verse 8-9, Joshua is depressed and he has a complaining and victim mentality. He complains to God.
The Lord says, "Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them:" Israel could not have victory in their fight because they had failed to obey God in what He had commanded them.
God says to Joshua, "Thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you." (v.13)
How about you? Have you experienced spiritual defeat lately? If so, I would like to challenge you, purify yourself of sin. Examine yourself. If you don’t have the strength to stand strong, it’s not because God is weak. It is because you have separated yourself from the God of all strength. So don’t have a complaining spirit, or think you are a victim of your circumstances. Get up, and live for God. He is ready to empower you, all you must do is purify yourself.
"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." – 2 Corinthians 7:1
"If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work." – 2 Timothy 2:21
