Silver, treasure, and fear

I have heard it said that in the age of information ignorance is a choice. Well, that’s kinda true no matter what time period a person lives in. The Bible gives clear instruction on how to gain knowledge it’s quite simple.

Proverbs 2:3-5 says, "Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God."

Looking at that verse we find several steps to gaining knowledge. First one must simply ask for it. I think we can safely assume that we need to ask God for knowledge and understanding. Then we must look for knowledge and understanding. Notice how serious the seeking is. It says that we should seek as one would search for treasure. How many people go searching for treasure and never find it. How many spend years searching for a better paycheck or a way up the corporate ladder. Imagine if we sought for understanding that way. I think we’d be better off than we are now, or at least I would.

What is the result? Then we will "understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God." Wait. What? Yes, knowledge and understanding that is truly worth seeking after is that of God.

After all, God tells us that, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." Proverbs 9:10 True knowledge and true understanding comes only from knowing God. That is what we should be seeking after.

Are you seeking to know God more, as you would search for hidden treasure?

"For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding." – Proverbs 2:6
