Most of the time we think of hate as a bad thing. Hate is so despicable that we even have things called "hate crimes." Some hate is labled as a crime. But do you know, that Christ commands us to hate.
If you don’t think so, keep reading. In Luke 14:26, Christ says, "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." Now, the passage doesn’t mean literal hate, but it is pretty strong language.
Jesus is saying that you must love Him so much that in comparison the love you have for your family is so little that it could be called hate. That’s a pretty extreme form of Christianity, but in reality, it’s the only form of Christianity.
God wants us to love Him and desire to please Him with a passion that cannot be compared with any other. He wants to be number one, because He deserves to be number one. If you think about it, the only person you have to please is Christ.
Meditate on that for a moment.
God is the only person you must please. The only person you need to make happy. It’s simple. It’s true. And it’s a cause for a stress-free life.
I challenge you: As you go throughout your day, take a moment or two and think about that. Are your thoughts and actions pleasing to God. Forget about everyone else. Focus on Him.
There’s only one person you need to please. Are you pleasing Him?
