Back in the day, when there was work to do on the farm, before the days of tractors and combines, there were yokes of oxen. The Bible uses this imagery throughout the Bible. In a spiritual context, I would say that every person is yoked. They must determine what it is that they will be yoked to.
2 Corinthians 6:14 says, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:" As a Christian, you can choose to be yoked to the world. It’s an unequal yoke, as God has said. The world will drag you down. And you will not be able to stand.
Contrast that with God’s yoke.
In Matthew 11:29, Christ says, "Take my yoke upon you . . . For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Christ invites you to serve with Him. God invites you to work with Him. God says that His yoke is easy. His burden is light. When you yoke up with God, God carries the brunt of the load. God pulls you up and strengthens you.
It’s your decision, will you decide to work with the world and it’s system, or will you serve God and work in His plan. God is willing to help you carry your burden, but you have to be walking His way.
