Nicotine Patch Christianity

Have you ever thought about how a Nicotine patch works? I mean really thought about it? You put this sticker on your body, and your skin absorbs a drug. I’m not completely familiar with the patches, and I’ve never used one, but the principle behind it’s effectiveness is interesting.

If drug sticker can be absorbed in our skin and effect our body, couldn’t other things too? What’s touching your body? What could be absorbed? You could be absorbing remnants of laundry detergent, shampoo, soap? If you are using an electronic, you are absorbing radiation. Our physical bodies are affected by every single thing they come in contact with. There is even evidence that the type of light you are exposed to affects your health.

So what does this have to do with our Christian life? Our spirits are affected by everything they come in contact with. When we allow ourselves to be exposed to worldly things, we absorb them. When we decide to read our Bible we find that we absorb Christ-likeness.

Proverbs 13:20 says, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Many times changes in character are active decisions. We decide not to lie. We decide not to steal. Sometimes our character is changed passively.

Go back to the scripture. Did that first man “DO” anything that made him wise? Not really, he just spent time with wise people. Did the second man “DO” anything to become destroyed. Not really, He just spent time with the wrong people.

I challenge you, don’t allow your spiritual life to be slowly poisoned by your associations. Decide to watch clean movies and listen to wholesome music. Stay clear of sinful things. Choose to associate with Christ and His Word. After you DECIDE to associate with right things, you will see how that will change you PASSIVELY. Whether you notice it or not, you will be affected by what surrounds you. You must choose how you will be affected, and by what.

Won’t you choose to absorb Christ?
