Have you ever noticed the diversity of people who accept Christianity? Even in the Scriptures, we can find a great diversity of people, from all ages and social classes, accepting the gospel. I would submit to you that the gospel affects so many because the gospel is relevant to all. But just because the gospel is relevant to all, does not mean that it is always presented in a way that reflects its relevance.
Paul, knowing this, chose to adjust his evangelistic style to reach people. He says in 1 Corinthians 9:20, "And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews," later he says, "To them that are without law, as without law that I might gain them that are without law." Paul was willing to change his lifestyle so he could reach more people. Paul knew that culture and customs were not important enough to stand between his reaching people with the gospel.
So what can we learn from this? How is this idea relevant to us? The question for you today is, "Are you being flexible in how you reach people for Christ?" In this age of technology, our culture is changing and reshaping like never before. There are many new and innovative ways to reach out to people that were not available 20, 10, or even 5 years ago. We have a responsibility to use whatever culture we encounter, to reach the world with the gospel.
I would like to challenge you, seek God on how you can be most effective in reaching the people of your culture. You might live in a culture that would reject traditional methods of evangelism. Find a way around that. Let us always be willing to change our methods, so we can reach people with the unchanging message. Let us be willing to change so we can say, like Paul:
"I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." – 1 Corinthians 9:22
