Results matter. They always have. No one wants excuses, they want results. And they want it to look good on paper. When you have to do a job, you have to do it right, quickly, and thoroughly. At the end of the day, that is what is expected. But in the end, there are always shortcuts. If you’re studying for a test, you can study what you think will be tested, do fancy guessing on the rest, and it will look good. (and you got the results) If you’re working at a job, you can cut corners here and there, and things will still look good. But is that the bottom line?
Ephesians 6 tells us, “Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:”
Okay, so maybe you’re not a first century servant, but the principle still applies. How are you doing your job? So it looks good? What is your ultimate goal in any task? To make it look good? God wants you to do His will from the heart. That means that whatever you do, you do it for Him and you do it in a way that would please Him.
In the end, who cares if it looks good? Was it done so it pleased God? Was it done for Him?
I challenge you, don’t measure the success of your efforts by the results that you “see” whether they be good or bad. Measure them by the condition of your heart. Did you do your utmost? And did you do it for Him?
“Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.” Ephesians 6:8
